Saturday – Asahikawa

Here's our breakfast for today.
Here's our breakfast for today.

Ella and I woke up bright and early to make it in time for her doctor's appointment at Nakane Dermatology Clinic in Asahikawa City. Before we set off, Ella kindly assisted me in preparing a delicious breakfast. Together, we whipped up some mouthwatering scrambled eggs with tuna.

We left Rumoi City at 7:40 AM and arrived at Nakane Dermatology Clinic around 9:50 AM for Ella’s appointment. Afterward, I treated her to some "Ella Time" at AEON Asahikawa West Store, where she found two pairs of shoes she loved. For lunch, Ella craved McDonald's, and I happily took her there to enjoy her meal.

Rumoi Shinkin Bank
Before going home, we stopped by at Rumoi Shinkin Bank

After our lunch, we decided to make our way back home. However, before returning, I made a brief detour to
Rumoi Shinkin Bank to withdraw some money for our upcoming adventure tomorrow, ensuring we were fully prepared.

Movie night: The Curse of La Llorona
Movie night: The Curse of La Llorona

Upon arriving home, we took care of the necessary household chores and tackled the laundry that had accumulated, as time had been limited. During our much-needed downtime, we decided to relax and watch the 2019 Horror film The Curse of La Llorona, allowing ourselves to unwind and enjoy some thrilling entertainment.

Before calling it a day, I dedicated my time to assisting Haruto-kun, the son of Akiko's friend, in his preparations for the Eiken exam. Witnessing his potential, I sincerely hoped that he would succeed and pass the exam with flying colors.

Sunday – Father and Daughter Road Trip 4: Yagishiri and Teuri Island

Yagishiri and Teuri Island Trip
4th road trip with my daughter while my wife is in Osaka

It’s a sunny Sunday, and my prayers for beautiful weather have been answered—today is our Yagishiri and Teuri Island hopping adventure. Ella and I are joining Mike, Jon, and Matsushita-sensei—also known as the Tomamae Gang—as we explore the stunning islands of Yagishiri and Teuri in the town of Haboro.

We left Rumoi City around 6:30 AM and arrived at Haboro Ferry Terminal by 7:40 AM, just in time for the 8:00 AM boarding. We were the last to arrive since the Tomamae Gang was already there. As it was still the off-season, I paid 2,830 yen for my ticket and 1,420 yen for Ella's. We boarded the Sunrise 2, a speedboat that takes only 35 minutes to reach Yagishiri Ferry Terminal, compared to the ferry, which takes an hour.

Upon arriving at Yagishiri Island, we rented bikes to explore the island. Then, we’d board the Sunrise 2 again at 12:25 PM for our trip to Teuri Island. Once there, we’d meet up with Mike, who skipped the Yagishiri exploration.

These are the things that we did when we reached Yagishiri:

1. Bid Mike farewell as he left for Teuri Island

We returned to the Yagishiri Ferry Terminal around noon, giving us some time to rest and refresh before boarding the Sunrise 2 to Teuri Island. For this trip, I paid 1,340 yen for my ticket and 680 yen for Ella's.

We arrived at Teuri at 12:40 PM, where Mike was already waiting for us at the Teuri Ferry Terminal. Initially, we planned to explore Teuri Island once we arrived, but we decided to change our plans as we were tired from biking around Yagishiri Island. On top of that, we were all feeling quite hungry.

After eating, we decided that we didn’t have enough time to bike around the island so we rented a car at Ororon Rental instead. It costs 3700 yen and an additional gas fee for an hour of usage. It was a good deal as we needed to pay 1000 yen to rent a bike for 2 hours.

Our day didn’t end there, though. We decided to have dinner at the Haboro Sunset Plaza Hotel, but unfortunately, the restaurant wasn’t open yet. So, we headed to Izumi’s Restaurant, just a few blocks away. The owner, a kind older lady, was wonderful, and the food was amazing.

After dinner, we said our goodbyes. It was nearly 9 PM by the time Ella and I got home to Rumoi City. We were too tired to do anything else, so we simply washed up, video-called my wife to update her on our day, and then went to bed.

Overall, it was a productive and adventure-filled weekend. While we didn’t visit any new municipalities, we had the chance to explore the islands of Yagishiri and Teuri, which made the weekend memorable. I’m already looking forward to next weekend, hoping we’ll get to visit new places again.
