Chasing Autumn in Hokkaido

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) predicted that autumn in Japan, including Hokkaido, will be shorter this year due to a sharp drop in temperatures expected in late November. So if you plan to see the stunning fall colors, better start early before the leaves fade away.

Autumn Spots in Hokkaido
Chasing Autumn in Hokkaido

The photos I am sharing here were taken in different years, each one capturing a moment of quiet beauty that defines Hokkaido’s autumn. The best time to see the foliage usually falls from mid-October to the last week of October, although certain conditions can make it last longer or end sooner. This year, I decided not to include the well-known sites like Jozankei or Daisetsuzan. Instead, I want to highlight some of the lesser-known autumn foliage spots that often get overlooked. These are the places that surprised me the most, where I could enjoy the view without crowds and take in the crisp air in peace.

Here are some autumn sports worth checking out this year

Autumn in Hokkaido may not last long this year, but its beauty remains timeless. Every leaf that turns and every breeze that carries the scent of the season reminds me why this place is worth visiting again and again. It is not just about finding the most famous view, but about discovering the quiet corners where nature speaks softly and the world feels at peace.
