Kamui no Mori Park Details

In 1991, Kamui no Mori Park earned its place as one of 15 parks in Japan designated by the Ministry of Construction (now the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism) under the "Heisei Memorial Children's Forest Park Development Project." This initiative aimed to create spaces where children, the future leaders of tomorrow, could grow up healthy in lush, green environments.

Designed with Kids in Mind

The park’s design was inspired by insights shared during the "Kamui no Mori Park Children's Conference" held in 1992, where local elementary students voiced their ideas. One of their key suggestions—a need for indoor facilities—led to the creation of the popular WakuWaku Egg Indoor Playground, ensuring year-round fun regardless of the weather.

On June 10, 2023, my daughter and I visited Kamui no Mori Park for the first time, coinciding with my 586th day in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. This visit turned out to be the highlight of our day. I made sure to include it in our itinerary so Ella could enjoy some well-deserved playtime. It wasn’t just Ella who had a great time—I also thoroughly enjoyed exploring the park.

Getting to Kamui no Mori Park

The most convenient way to reach Kamui no Mori Park is by private or rental car, as it is located on the outskirts of Asahikawa City. If you prefer to use public transportation, here's what I'm familiar with, though it involves quite a bit of walking.

From Asahikawa Station, head towards the 1-Jo 8-Chome bus stop and take the 50-Inosawa Line to Ubun 2-go, operated by the Dohoku bus company. Get off at the Kamui 7-Jo 15-Chome bus stop. From there, it's about a 2.5-kilometer walk to the park.
