Rumoi High School 6.20.23 |
It's another sunny day, and I'm heading back to Rumoi High School for my second visit this week. Upon arriving, I was thrilled to hear that two of the people I trained for Eiken had passed the recent exam. The first was Kanon-san, who aced the Grade 3 exam, and the second was Matsuda-sensei, who passed Grade Pre-1 and is now just one test away from achieving his dream of completing the Eiken exams.
As for my work today, here’s my workload for today:

Haboro High School 6.21.23 |
It’s a sunny morning here in Rumoi City. According to the weather forecast, it would remain sunny the whole day with temperatures of 18 – 20 degrees. For today’s visit, I’m heading to Haboro High School. It’s my 3rd visit for School Year 2023 – 2024. For this trip, I used my 2-Day Skip Moekko Free Ticket.
Here’s my workload for today:
1st period – Promoting the Philippines @ 1A of Watanabe-sensei
2nd period – Interviewing the Students @ 3rd year of Watanabe-sensei
3rd period – Promoting the Philippines @ 1B of Watanabe-sensei
During my lunch break, I trained one of the students for the Eiken Pre-1 interview test. In my opinion, she has a high chance of passing the exam as she has a good command of the language. Sadly, I won’t be able to train her more as my next visit is scheduled after her exam.

2023 Rumoi Taishi Festival |

Ella and I attended the festival in search of food to eat for dinner. |
When I got home, my daughter and I were excited to check out the first day of the 2023 Taishi Festival of Rumoi City. This year, it was held in the Hanazonocho District, unlike last year. As we arrived, we were surprised by the large crowd. We ran into many of my students, as well as Ella's teachers and classmates. After walking along the lively street, we were ready for dinner.

Ella and her caramelized apple |
We enjoyed tasty treats like kebabs, okonomiyaki, and caramelized apples, all adding to the festive vibe. As the day ended, we looked forward to the second day of the festival, hoping to make it home early and explore more with my daughter.
Day 598: June 22, 2023
Thursday – Embetsu
Breaking the sunny streak, today's forecast predicts a cloudy day. Nevertheless, the temperatures are expected to reach a scorching 25 degrees, making it the hottest day we've experienced so far this year. Surprisingly, it was very sunny when I got to Embetsu Agricultural High School for my ninth visit this School Year, 2023-2024. For this trip, I used my 1-day Moekko Free Ticket.
Here’s my workload today:

We headed back for the last day of the Rumoi Taishi Festival this year |
When I got back home, my daughter and I went to the Hanazonocho District again for the last day of the 2023 Rumoi Taisho Festival. Like yesterday, we bought food for dinner, but this time we tried the takoyaki and a different kind of okonomiyaki.

Movie night: Balawis (1996) |
Before calling it a day, we watched the 1996 Filipino monster flick, Balawis. Although it’s not scary by today’s standards, and some scenes were cringey, I remember how it gave me a scare when I was a young kid.
Day 599: June 23, 2023
Friday – Tomamae Rumoi
It’s going to be a cloudy day today. I was scheduled to go to Tomamae Commercial High School for my usual Friday visits, but Matsushita-sensei sent a message that he would be going to a school in Obira to observe classes. Hence, the visit was canceled. ![]() |
Rumoi High School 6.23.23 |

Movie night: Extraction 2 |
Before calling it a day, my daughter and I decided to unwind with a movie, and we picked Extraction 2 (2023). From start to finish, it was an exhilarating ride! The action sequences were intense, especially the stunts and fight scenes, which kept us on the edge of our seats. The pacing was perfect, making it hard to look away for even a second.
Overall, I visited Rumoi High School three times this week. Aside from that, I also visited Haboro High School and Embetsu High School. It was a tiring week but it’s worth it.
