Our first visit to Sheep and Cloud Hill (羊と雲の丘観光㈱)
in Shibetsu City, Hokkaido, was during a family camping trip on September 25,2022. My daughter and I revisited this scenic destination on June 18, 2023,
marking my 594th day in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. This time, we
were joined by my friend and fellow ALT, Mike, making it a memorable farewell
trip for him as he had completed his contract and was set to leave Hokkaido in
August.

highlights of our trip. We enjoyed feeding the friendly sheep while taking in
the breathtaking views of the rolling hills and surrounding scenery.

sheep pen and get up close with the Suffolk Sheep. For just 100 yen, you can
purchase a food pack at the entrance gate and feed the sheep, an experience
that’s sure to delight kids and adults alike. Standing at the top of the
pasture, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the rolling hills, creating
the perfect backdrop for memorable photos.

A Culinary Treat: Restaurant Shepherd’s House
Beyond the adorable sheep, Sheep and Cloud Hill is also a
foodie’s paradise. The on-site Restaurant Shepherd’s House (羊飼いの家)
serves some of the best jingisukan in Shibetsu City. Known for its signature
Suffolk lamb dishes, this restaurant offers an unparalleled dining experience.
While the prices may be slightly higher than average, the quality and flavor of
the dishes—especially the Suffolk jingisukan—make it well worth the splurge.

Sheep and Cloud Hill Admission Fee?
It’s FREE to enter and explore Sheep and
Cloud Hill. However, it is highly recommended that you bring cash when you
visit, just in case you want to try the sheep feeding activity, try the
Suffolk jingusukan, or buy souvenirs in the shop.
Sheep and Cloud Hill Operating Hours
Sheep and Cloud Hill are open from 10 AM to 7 PM.
Restaurant Shepard’s House is open from 11 AM to 3
PM.

Public Transport Option
If you prefer to commute, there’s an alternative:
- From
Shibetsu City, take the Limited Express [Sahotchi Taxi] from
Shibetsu Station directly to Sheep and Cloud Hill. This taxi service is a
budget-friendly option priced at just 500 yen.
However, please note that this service is limited to three
round-trip tickets per day, so making an advance reservation is essential.
