Monday – Rumoi

As I begin my 82nd week as an ALT under the JET Programme, I can't help but reflect on how much I've grown accustomed to my life in Japan. Despite the gloomy weather that greeted me when I left home, I was grateful to have arrived at Rumoi High School just in time to avoid the downpour that began an hour later.

Here’s my workload today:

While in one of the classrooms, I saw a poster announcing that it was possible to ride the CH-47J helicopter of the Japan Self-Defense Force on June 10th. It was a lottery, but I still took the opportunity to apply.

It's another gloomy day here in Rumoi City, but at least the rain held off this time. Today, I'm excited to make my final visit to Rumoi High School for the week.

After work, my wife and I drove to Rumoi Shinkin Bank to withdraw money for this month's budget.

Wednesday – Teshio

Today is a beautiful day, filled with sunshine and a gentle breeze. It marks my third visit to Teshio High School for the academic year 2023-2024. As I embarked on this trip, I was fortunate to utilize my 2-day Moekko Free Ticket, allowing me to explore the city and its educational institutions freely.

I finished work a bit earlier than usual, and since the Engan Bus heading back to Rumoi City wasn't scheduled to arrive for another hour, I decided to take advantage of the extra time and go for a leisurely walk. I chose to revisit Teshio Itsukushima Shrine, a place that holds special meaning for me.

After spending some time at the shrine, I continued my walk toward the Kawaguchi Ruins Scenic Forest. It was a fascinating experience to explore the recreated Ainu dwellings nestled within the forest. Surprisingly, even though I had lived just 12 minutes away from Teshio High School, it was my first time visiting this particular site. Once I had thoroughly explored the forest and admired the serene surroundings, I made my way back to the bus stop. Fortunately, I arrived a few minutes before the bus pulled up, allowing me to catch it without any hassle.

That night, my family and I barbecued on our veranda. It was the first time for us to barbecue. It was a fun experience.

Thursday – Embetsu

It’s another beautiful sunny day. Today, I’m heading to Embetsu Agricultural High School. It’s my 6th visit for the School Year 2023 – 2024. For this trip, I used my 2-day Moekko Free Ticket.

Thank goodness it's Friday! The sun is shining brightly, casting its warm rays upon the vibrant landscape. Today marks my fourth visit to Tomamae Commercial High School for the School Year 2023-2024. For this trip, I used my 1-day Moekko Free Ticket.

Throughout this week, I had the privilege of visiting a series of remarkable educational institutions. Rumoi High School, Teshio High School, Embetsu Agricultural High School, and Tomamae Commercial High School each offered a distinct and enriching experience. Although the week was undoubtedly tiring, the fulfillment I derived from these visits filled me with anticipation for the upcoming weekend.

Munting Buhangin Beach Camp - Batangas

Located in the municipality of Nasugbu in the province of Batangas, Munting Buhangin Beach Camp is one of the few privately owned resorts in the area that doesn't really require memberships for visitors to enjoy. Munting Buhangin Beach Camp Munting Buhangin Beach Camp Details Although Munting Buhangin Beach Camp doesn't have white sand to boast, it's quite an isolated place which makes the resort stand out. Its light brown sand, sprinkled with different kinds of shells, is cleaned daily by the dedicated staff of the resort. Sadly, during my visit, a broken piece of glass buried in the sand gave one of my toes a deep cut but I know that it's just a rare case (no one needs to be fired) and nobody wanted that to happen. Patungan Beach - Cavite

Located in Barangay Sta. Mercedes (Patungan) in Maragondon , Cavite, Patungan Beach is one of the province's little-known beach destinations. It is situated inside Patungang Cove which is south of Mt. Palay Palay which is also known as Pico de Loro . Patungan Beach Patungan Beach Details The area near Patungan Beach is home to about 100 - 200 families, most of which are fishermen hence the alternate name of the barangay - Patungan Fishing Village . According to the locals that I interviewed, their place was once an isolated  barangay , reachable only by boat, horse, or foot. Thankfully, with the completion of the  Nasugbu - Ternate Highway  and  Kaybiang Tunnel , the barangay was finally connected to the province. The last time I visited Daraga Church was during the 4th day of our CamSur - Albay Road Trip last 2014. Located in Barangay San Pedro in Sto. Tomas in the province of Batangas, the National Shrine of St. Padre Pio is a pilgrimage site dedicated and inspired by Saint Padre Pio.
