Day 631: July 25, 2023

Tuesday – Aya and Pat in Rumoi City # 1

The day greeted us with a mostly cloudy sky, with only a slight chance of rain before noon. This marks the official start of summer vacation for students, but for me, it’s back to work at Rumoi High School.

Studied Japanese today using the VLJ Learning Course. Topic for the day: "You ni naru"

The highlight of my workday was the Physical Exam scheduled in the morning. Once that was done, I dedicated time to studying Japanese through the VLJ online course. I’m thrilled to report that I’m just a few units away from completing it—a small but meaningful milestone in my language learning journey.

Having fasted for the exam, I treated myself and my siblings to a hearty lunch at C-Restaurant. It was a feast to remember, filled with quality food and laughter. If only time weren’t so tight! I had to return to work, leaving Aya, Pat, and my daughter free to explore the city. Their plan included visiting the serene Rumoi Shrine and the vibrant Rumoi Roadside Station.

Back at Rumoi High School, I was greeted with wonderful news from Matsuda-sensei—he passed the Eiken 1 exam! It was a moment of shared triumph, as we had worked tirelessly together to prepare for this. His success is not only a personal victory for him but also a proud moment for me as a mentor. Matsuda-sensei now joins the ranks of my two previous Eiken 1 achievers: Mugi-san and Ken-sensei, my former JTE in Haboro.

Family Moments at Cape Ogon

After work, the day continued with more adventures. I drove Aya and Pat to Umi no Furusatokan, a museum that offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of Rumoi City. From there, we headed to Ogon Cape, where we soaked in the breathtaking coastal views.

As the day drew to a close, we found ourselves at Senbodai, perched above the city. We watched the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and gold. When night fell, we admired the sparkling lights of Rumoi from above—a perfect way to end an eventful and meaningful day.

Today was a blend of work, family, and moments of quiet reflection, all set against the beautiful backdrop of Rumoi City.
