There is also a take-out counter where visitors can buy soft cream with cones made from locally produced pumpkins. Last 2021, the roadside station souvenir shop was located on the second floor but now it is moved to the Chairumo building beside the roadside station.

Speaking of Chairumo, it is a new establishment that just recently opened to the public this year (2022). It's an indoor playground specifically designed for kids, particularly those at the elementary level. You can read more about it 👉HERE👈.

Food Stalls in Rumoi Roadside Station (2023)

You should try the food here. Totally worth it!

Food stalls also line up outside the roadside station in front of the Chairumo. I highly recommend trying out the food here especially if you come from a long ride.

I have visited Rumoi Roadside Station countless times because that's where the Funaba English Kitchen is held. However, it was only after I got the Hokkaido Roadside Station Stamp Rally booklet in Biei that I came up with the idea to write about Roadside Stations as I found out that they can stand as tourist spots on their own.

Going back, the first time I visited Rumoi Roadside Station with my family was last May 29, 2022 (Sunday) which was my 30th weekend here in Japan as an Assistant Language Teacher under the JET Programme. During our visit, we enjoyed the roadside station soft cream and the walk around Senba Park.

Rumoi Roadside Station Operating Hours

Rumoi Roadside Station is open 9AM - 5PM.

It is closed during the year-end and New Year holiday (December 31 - January 5).

Why visit Rumoi Roadside Station?

Aside from the delicious soft cream and souvenirs, Rumoi Roadside Station seems to have been marketed as a child-friendly stopover. There are so many things to do for children outdoors in Senba Park and indoors in Chairumo.

Getting to Rumoi Roadside Station

The best way to reach Rumoi Roadside Station from Sapporo or Asahikawa is by car.

However, if you want to visit it via local transportation. You need to ride the Engan Express Bus from either Sapporo or Asahikawa. Once in the city, ride the Engan Coastal Bus to Toyotomi and board down at the Funaba Koen Mae bus stop. Another option is to simply walk to the roadside station once you reach Rumoi City.

  2. Rumoi Roadside Station was my 12th roadside station in Hokkaido. I live in Asahikawa so it's a bit of a drive going there. Honestly, I hope the management add more facilities in it so that people would spend more time in it.

    1. In a way, I agree with you. This place has potential. I heard that they would be partnering with Montbell. For sure, that is something to look forward to.
