Weekend 65: January 28-29, 2023
Day 453: January 28, 2023
Saturday – Driving around Rumoi
 |
Ella sliding down the snow pile outside our house |
Today’s weather forecast said that Rumoi City would receive a large amount of snow in the afternoon. Regardless, since it was a weekend, we didn’t want to stay home the whole day as we would surely consume a lot of kerosene, so we decided to head out.
My daughter and I planned to rent plastic sleds to play in the snow mounds of Senba Park but were disappointed to learn that they don’t do rentals during the weekends. Regardless, it was a blessing as the “large amount of snow” turned out to be a blizzard.

I tried matcha coffee for the first time |
Instead of heading home, we decided to wait it out. First, we ordered coffee from the coffee vending machine inside the Rumoi Roadside Station.
"Ella Time" in Chairumo
When the snowstorm didn’t subside, we went to Chairumo beside Rumoi Roadside Station so that Ella could enjoy the day. We spent the whole afternoon there. |
Last stop for the day: MaxValu Rumoi |
We left a little before 5 PM. Thankfully, the blizzard already weakened allowing us to drive to Maxvalu to buy groceries before heading home and calling it a day.
Day 454: January 29, 2023
Sunday – Rumoi City Library
 |
Ruru buried in snow |
Like yesterday, the weather forecast said that Rumoi City would again receive a large amount of snow in the afternoon. As funny as it may sound but we chose to again head out today.

Since it's almost Setsubun (節分), visitors can throw balls at the demon's face in the library |

Library time for Team Nicerio |
This time, we drove to the Rumoi City Library. We figured that it would surely be warmer there plus it’s quiet and has free WiFi. That’s why I brought my laptop so that I can work on the PowerPoint presentations for my visit schools. I also got to write several blog articles for my blog. |
Dinner at Mos Burger Rumoi |
 |
MOS Burger Rumoi |
We stayed in the Rumoi City Library the whole afternoon. From there, we proceeded to MOS Burger Rumoi for our afternoon snack/dinner before heading back home.

Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre |
That night, before calling it a day, Ella and I watched several episodes of Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre.Overall, I might have written little about it, but I spent a considerable amount of time shoveling and clearing snow this week. It’s tiring but was necessary and, in a way, is my source of exercise. However, there are days that I honestly miss the sunshine and the warmth of summer. I also miss going on road trips and visiting new cities, towns, and villages in Hokkaido.Read more:
