Day 741: November 12, 2023
Sunday – Rumoi x Obira

Today was a busy and productive day filled with various household chores and preparations. As winter is fast approaching, we decided it was the perfect time to clean, organize, and rearrange our home to make it more comfortable and efficient for the cold season. We sorted through our belongings, put away lighter clothes, and brought out the thicker blankets and winter gear.

Later in the day, I drove to Shell Self Rumoi in Motokawacho to purchase kerosene, known locally as touyu (灯油), to refill our home heater and keep us warm in the coming days. After finishing our errands and completing all the necessary preparations for winter, we took a well-deserved break and enjoyed a relaxing and satisfying lunch together as a reward for a productive morning.

In the afternoon, we decided to unwind and reward ourselves with a soothing visit to Yuttarikan Onsen in Obira (小平町). Although it wasn’t our first time there, the peaceful atmosphere and naturally heated waters once again provided the perfect escape from the cold. The moment we stepped inside, the familiar scent of the hot spring and the gentle warmth of the baths instantly melted away the fatigue from our earlier chores.
While my main task was to look after Kai, I still managed to enjoy the calming ambiance of the onsen. The soft hum of conversation, the steam rising from the baths, and the gentle background music made it easy to relax. At one point, I almost drifted off to sleep in the rest area, lulled by the soothing quiet. After more than two hours of pure relaxation and family bonding, we left Yuttarikan feeling refreshed, our minds clear and bodies recharged, before driving back to Rumoi City to end the day peacefully.

However, our day didn’t end there. On our way home, we stopped by COOP to buy the ingredients we needed for dinner, making sure our pantry was stocked for the coming week. Afterward, we headed to Jabba Laundromat to dry our laundry, a routine that has become more frequent now that the weather is getting colder and sunnier days are rare. Even with the busy schedule, we felt accomplished, having completed everything we set out to do for the day.
Finally, we reached home around 8 PM. Despite plans for a movie night, the calming influence of the onsen left us yearning for nothing but a restful sleep, marking a perfect conclusion to our 106th weekend here in Japan.
