Day 742: November 13, 2023
Monday – Rumoi

It’s a cold 2-degree morning here in Rumoi City, and the chill in the air signals that winter is truly settling in. The streets glisten with a thin layer of frost, and I can see my breath forming small clouds as I make my way to the bus stop. For work, I’m visiting my main school today—Rumoi High School.

After work, my family and I drove to DCM to pick up some household essentials. We then stopped by the nearby MaxValu for groceries. Since we were in the mood for yakiniku, we decided to wait a little for the evening sale—and luckily, we scored some high-quality meat, and some were at a discounted price.

Back home, we fired up the grill and enjoyed a delicious, satisfying dinner together.

On another chilly day, the city woke up to a picturesque scene with a thick blanket of snow that had fallen overnight. Brimming with excitement, my daughter couldn't wait to step outside and immerse herself in the winter wonderland.

Meanwhile, as for my work, I’m heading to my usual Tuesday visit to Rumoi High School, a routine I always look forward to. Although most classes were engrossed in exam preparations, I had the chance to engage in a collaborative session with one class today.
As for work, most classes are busy reviewing today for the upcoming exams, so I only had one collab class today.

Wednesday – Haboro

It’s a bit warmer today compared to the past few days, hence the snow that accumulated yesterday turned slushy. For today’s school visit, I’m heading to Haboro High School. It’s my 15th visit for the 2023 – 2024 School Year. For this trip, I used my 2-day Skip Moekko Free Ticket.

That evening, my wife and I stayed up late to compete in the tournament of the game Cooking Fever. The competition was tough, yet we persevered, securing a second-place finish and reaping a bounty of in-game diamonds and coins. The exchange for our victory, however, was a late-night venture into the early hours, with sleep eluding us until around 2 AM. The tournament demanded much from us, both physically and mentally, but the exhaustion was a small price to pay for the rare and memorable experience of engaging in intense online gaming with my wife.
Day 745: November 16, 2023
Thursday – Embetsu

It’s a cold morning. However, it’s way warmer now compared to Monday. The snow had already melted, and only a few traces were visible on my walk to the bus stop at Motokawacho. For today’s work, I’m heading to Embetsu Agricultural High School. It’s my 19th visit for the School Year 2023 – 2024. For this trip, I used my 1-day Moekko Free Ticket.

When I got to work, there was a lot of snow in the school grounds. It wasn't a surprise as my school is far up north in Hokkaido.

When I got home, my wife had prepared a sumptuous meal for us — giniling, miso soup, and salad. Delicious!
Day 746: November 17, 2023
Friday – Tomamae

It’s a sunny day, which has made the remaining snow melt. Today, I’m heading to Tomamae Commercial High School. It’s my 19th visit for the school year 2023 – 2024. For this trip, I used my 2-day Skip Moekko Free Ticket.

2nd period – Exam Review @ 1st year of Matsushita-sensei

After work, my family and I ran several errands. We first stopped by Heartful to submit my wife’s pregnancy-related receipts, then went to 7-Eleven Rumoi in Minamimachi to buy dinner. Next, we visited Rumoi Shinkin Bank to withdraw some cash before heading to Ebata Dental Clinic for my wife’s appointment. We also dropped by COOP to buy groceries for the weekend since I wouldn’t be home until Tuesday.
Before calling it a day, my wife and I finalized the details of my 4-day solo trip to Osaka, which would start the next day.
Overall, it was another successful week as an ALT. I visited Rumoi High School, Haboro High School, Embetsu Agricultural High School, and Tomamae Commercial High School. From tomorrow until Tuesday next week, I will be in Osaka to submit paperwork to the Philippine Consulate about Kai’s birth.
