Ikeda (池田町) is an inland town located in Hokkaido’s Tokachi Subprefecture, Japan. The town is best known for its wine production. The area where the Tokachi River and Tobetsu River once converged—now the site of modern-day Ikeda—was originally called Sei-or-sam in the Ainu language, meaning place near shells.” The Japanese later represented the name using Chinese characters and called it “Shibosamu.”

2. Pay your respects and offer prayers in Ikeda Shrine (池田神社) located at the eastern edge of town. Visitors can also receive a goshuin here from the friendly priest, a beautiful, handwritten seal perfect for shrine collectors.

3. Visit Ikeda Station (池田駅), the main gateway to the town. As a manned station, it offers an eki stamp for collectors to add to their stamp books. Before you leave, don’t forget to take a photo with the giant cork statue outside, a fun and iconic landmark that celebrates Ikeda’s rich wine culture.
