Saturday – PTA Meeting at Midorigaoka Elementary School

What a delightful Saturday it has been! The morning greeted us with warm sunlight streaming through the windows, promising a beautiful day ahead. Today was an eventful one for our family, as Ella had her school's "School Visitation Day" activity at Midorigaoka Elementary School. It was a special occasion organized by the PTA to encourage parents' participation, and although my pregnant wife opted to rest at home, I gladly attended on behalf of our little family.

The activity commenced at 9:30 AM, and it was a wonderful opportunity for me to witness firsthand how Ella thrived in her classroom environment. I observed her engaging with her classmates and was particularly intrigued by her one-on-one session with Teacher Watanabe, who had replaced Teacher Kanda. It was heartening to see Ella's growth and development, knowing she was in capable hands.

The homeroom PTA meeting proved to be a delightful gathering as well, as I had the pleasure of meeting some of the parents of Ella's classmates. Though they were all mothers, their warmth and friendliness made me feel instantly welcomed into the tight-knit school community. It was reassuring to realize that our family truly belongs here, and the time I spent at the meeting felt incredibly worthwhile.

By noon, Ella and I returned home, brimming with stories to share. However, my plans to attend the hanami party with the Rumoi English Club members in Mashike took an unexpected turn when a sudden bout of stomach trouble struck. It was disappointing not to be able to join them, but health always comes first. So, I dedicated the rest of the day to rest and recuperation.

Detective Conan
We watched an episode of Detective Conan before calling it a day

In the evening, Ella and I decided to unwind by indulging in our shared love for Detective Conan. We embarked on a mini-marathon, immersing ourselves in several thrilling episodes. The mysteries and adventures kept us captivated until the late hours, and finally, with contented hearts, we bid the day farewell.

Day 538: April 23, 2023

Sunday – Rumoi

Today started with a forecast of scattered showers throughout the day, which meant our plans for outdoor activities had to be put on hold. Nevertheless, we made the most of the day, taking care of essential tasks and finding solace in quieter pursuits.

After a satisfying lunch, we noticed that the rain had yet to make an appearance. Seizing the opportunity, we decided to venture out to Serufu and purchase some touyou (kerosene) for our heater. The lingering chill in the air reminded us that winter was still reluctant to release its grip. With our kerosene needs fulfilled, we made a stop at Rumoi Shinkin Bank to withdraw our monthly budget.

Feeling accomplished, we proceeded to MaxValu and COOP to replenish our groceries. The bustling aisles were brimming with an array of fresh produce and daily necessities. As we carefully selected our items, we couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the simple joys of life.

With our shopping complete, we found ourselves with ample time to spare. Embracing the opportunity to engage in personal tasks and hobbies, we made our way to Rumoi City Library. I took the chance to update and transfer my applications to my new iPhone, while my wife delved into researching the necessary paperwork that we must accomplish after the arrival of our little one. Ella, ever the curious soul, divided her time between watching entertaining YouTube videos and immersing herself in captivating books.

As the clock ticked away, signaling the early evening, we embarked on our journey home around 4:30 PM. The comforting thought of a warm, cozy abode awaiting us made the prospect of returning even more inviting. Upon reaching home, my wife skillfully prepared a delicious dish called afritada for our dinner. The tantalizing aromas wafting through the kitchen ignited our appetites. Together, we eagerly savored the flavors, relishing in the shared mealtime. After dinner, my wife and I collaborated to prepare the ingredients for a dish she plans to cook during her bonding session with Ikuko-san and Alaina tomorrow.

To cap off the day, we indulged in several more episodes of Detective Conan, losing ourselves in the suspenseful mysteries that unfolded on the screen. As the night grew late, we finally bid adieu to the day, feeling content and grateful for the peaceful moments we had shared.

While our weekend did not lead us to explore new destinations, it provided us with much-needed rest and an opportunity to accomplish essential tasks. As the week draws near, I eagerly await the surprises and joys that await us in the days ahead.
