Shiroganeno Falls Details

The name "Shiraganeno" reflects the waterfall's nature as it translates to "White Silver Waterfall" - a fitting description for the stunning white water that glimmers under the sun. The waterfall has a drop of 25 meters, and its water flows directly to the Sea of Japan, providing a stunning view along with naturally soothing background music.

Shiroganeno Falls - Ishikari City, Hokkaido Prefecture

Shiroganeno Falls
is easy to find as it is located along Route 231. Speaking of which, a monument was built to celebrate the completion and opening of Route 231. It is installed in the mini park in front of the waterfall. This mini park has free parking and can accommodate 15 cars. There is also a toilet here.

Pictures of Shiroganeno Falls

From Mashike, you would see Shiroganeno Falls before entering the Hamamatsu Tunnel. If you have the chance to visit in late April to May, you'll witness the increase in water level due to the snowmelt, making it an even more impressive spectacle.

Team Nicerio visits Shiroganeno Falls

My family and I visited Shiroganeno Falls during our Mashike to Ishikari Road Trip last September 4, 2022. It was my 307th day here in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. We already passed by these stunning waterfalls on our way to Sapporo last August 19. However, since we were pressed for time we weren’t able to make a stop to check it out. That’s why, I made sure to include it in our itinerary. In a way, we were lucky as it rained in the past days which meant that there was a large amount of water coming down the falls.

Overall, Shiroganeno Falls is by far the most beautiful waterfall that we have seen here in Hokkaido Prefecture.

Shiroganeno Falls Fees

It’s FREE to park at the Shiroganeno Falls parking area. It’s also free to explore its mini park and take pictures of the falls. However, Remember that parking is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Shiroganeno Falls Operating Hours

Shiroganeno Falls is open 24/7. The same goes for its toilet. However, if you want to fully enjoy the view of the falls, visit in the morning.

Why visit Shiroganeno Falls?

There is nothing much to do at Shiroganeno Falls but take pictures and enjoy the scenery. That said, nature lovers would surely love this place as it is not crowded. However, because it is just beside Route 231, expect vehicular noise.

Getting to Shiroganeno Falls:

To access Shiroganeno Falls, private transportation is the sole option available, as there are no buses or trains servicing the area. If you're traveling from Mashike, you'll find the falls just before the Hamamasu Tunnel.

Fortunately, there is a designated parking area available, capable of accommodating approximately 10 to 15 vehicles.
