Weekend 117: January 27 – 28, 2024
Day 817: January 27, 2024
Saturday – Rumoi
 |
| Early morning drive to Nagata Fresh Fish Shop |
 |
| Plenty of fresh fish on sale |
 |
| My wife definitely had a fun time shopping for fish |
 |
| Off to our next stop... |
It was another cold winter day here in Rumoi City. In the
morning, my family and I drove to Nagata Fresh Fish Shop to pick up fresh fish
for the weekend. My wife was happy that she got several fish at a good price. Seems like we'd have some delicious dinner later.
 |
| COOP |
 |
| Grocery shopping at COOP Rumoi Store |
 |
| I wanted to buy these King Crab legs as they're already half price, but my wife said "Not today" 😥 |
After that, we made a quick stop at COOP for groceries and
other essentials. There were a lot of things on sale, but my wife was quite focused on what she wanted to buy, and she made sure we did not overspend on today's groceries.
 |
| Jabba Laundromat |
In the afternoon, we headed to Jabba Laundromat to dry our laundry. It
has become part of our weekend routine during winter since nothing dries
outside.
 |
| Dinner for tonight: various tempura and sinigang |
By evening, our home was filled with the warm and comforting
aroma of dinner. My wife prepared crispy tempura and sinigang using the fish we
bought earlier. After a long and cold day, it was the perfect meal to end the
night.
Another quiet but meaningful Saturday here in Rumoi.
Day 818: January 28, 2024
Sunday – Hokuryu
 |
| We're off to another weekend onsen trip |
 |
| Although it didn't snow much today, you could see how deep the snow had piled up on the sides of the road |
It’s a beautiful, clear Sunday morning. My family and I
decided to drive to the town of Hokuryu for a relaxing dip at Sunflower Park
Hokuryu Hot Spring, located within the Hokuryu Roadside Station. The warm
waters and peaceful atmosphere were a treat, especially after a week of
freezing temperatures.
 |
| Kai is relaxing after taking a dip at the onsen |
While resting, we tried the Himawari soft cream or sunflower
soft cream sold at the roadside station. It wasn’t exactly unique since the
sunflower seeds were just used as toppings. But since it was made from Hokkaido
milk, it still had that signature rich and delicious taste that never
disappoints.
 |
| Menya Miyabi Rumoi |
 |
| Spicy miso ramen for me and miso ramen for Ella |
 |
| Spicy Miso Ramen |
 |
| Ella's miso ramen |
 |
| Itadakimasu! |
After our relaxing bath, we drove back to Rumoi City and had
dinner at Menya Miyabi Rumoi. We ordered their miso ramen and spicy miso ramen.
Both bowls were flavorful, hearty, and perfect to warm us up for the rest of
the cold night.
Overall, this weekend was both productive and relaxing. I just hope that the snow melts already, as I really want to go on a road trip once again.
