A Hot Spring Known for Its “Beautiful Skin Water”

One of the highlights of Fureai no Sato is its natural hot spring source. The baths use sodium chloride bicarbonate spring water, also commonly called baking soda spring water. This type of onsen water is often referred to as “beauty water”, known for its gentle and skin-friendly properties. The minerals in the water help emulsify and cleanse oils and impurities on the skin, leaving it soft and refreshed after every soak.

We visited Fureai no Sato for the first time on February 17, 2024. It was my 838th day in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. As part of our Hokkaido 179 travel goal, we make it a point to include onsen facilities in each municipality we visit. By the time of this visit, we had already experienced dozens of onsen across Hokkaido, and I can confidently say that Fureai no Sato ranks among the best in the region.
