Day 627: July 21, 2023

Friday - Tomamae

Day 627: July 21, 2023
Tomamae Commercial High School 7.21.23

What a beautiful sunny morning! Today’s only work commitment was a trip to Tomamae Commercial High School, my 10th visit for the School Year 2023–2024. This time, I opted to use cash for my travel expenses.

My workload for the day was light:

2nd period: English Games with the 3rd-year class of Matsushita-sensei.

Asahikawa Airport - Higashikagura
We arrived at the Asahikawa Airport at around 6 PM.

Ella and I had an opportunity to explore the airport grounds.

After work, Ella and I drove to Asahikawa Airport in the town of Higashikagura (東神楽町) to pick up my siblings flying in from Tokyo. They’ll be staying with us until next Sunday.

We enjoyed watching the sunset while waiting for my siblings to arrive.

We reached the airport around 6 PM, and since their flight wasn’t due until 6:50 PM, we wandered over to the nearby Asahikawa Airport Park Green Port. The view of the runway was stunning—perfect for watching planes take off and land. Interestingly, it’s also one of the filming locations for the Netflix drama First Love.

Dinner time

When my siblings arrived, we took some time to explore the airport before heading back to Rumoi City. Along the way, we stopped for dinner at Yoshinoya Toyooka in Asahikawa City (旭川市).

Horoshin Spa - Numata, Hokkaido
Horoshin Spa

On our way home, we made a quick detour to Horoshin Spa in Numata (沼田町) to visit the Firefly Village. Unfortunately, it was already past 10 PM when we arrived, and most of the fireflies had settled for the night. We did spot a few, but it wasn’t quite the magical experience the town’s website had promised.

The fireflies were probably asleep when we arrived, as none of them were flying, but we saw several on plants along the stream

We finally got home close to midnight. None of us stayed up too long since we have an early trip planned for tomorrow. Reflecting on the week, it’s been relatively quiet in terms of work—just Rumoi High School and Tomamae Commercial High School. This also marks my last work week before the start of summer vacation next week! Excited for what’s ahead.
