Okatteya Moe / Souvenir Shop Okatteya Moe (おみやげ処 お勝手屋 萌) is a souvenir shop and tourist information center located at 3 Chome-2-13 Sakaemachi in Rumoi City, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan.

Also called Rumoi Souvenir Shop Okatteya Moe, this souvenir shop uses the building of the former Rumoi Shinkin Bank. Okatteya Moe also doubles as a tourism information center and a hub for disseminating tourism information. You will find numerous brochures here and even ask the staff for sample itineraries.

It is now an antenna store maintained by the NPO Rumoi Tourism Association that offers Rumoi's unique items. You may buy a variety of Rumoi-made items, including sweets, processed marine products, agricultural products, and, of course, the kazunoko, for which Rumoi is famous. Kazumo-chan, Rumoi's mascot, is based on the kazunoko.

Speaking of which, there are also numerous Kazumo-chan-themed products sold in Okatteya Moe like toys and keychains to name a few. If you want to see Kazumo-chan, you will see her in a vault inside Okatteya Moe. You can enter it for free and take photos with her. Sometimes, Kazumo-chan is dressed up depending on the event. However, since it was the pandemic when we visited, she was wearing a mask (for safety purposes).

I have visited Okatteya Moe several times but my latest visit was last May 29, 2022, my 209th day here in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. During this visit, I was with my family doing our usual weekend stroll around the city.

It's FREE to enter and explore Okatteya Moe. Okatteya Moe also offers FREE brochures. However, it is highly recommended that you bring money just in case you want to buy souvenirs.

Okatteya Moe is open from 9AM to 6PM. 

Why visit Okatteya Moe? 

If you are visiting or leaving Rumoi City via the Rumoi Line, then you should come to visit Okatteya Moe. The place offers free brochures for visitors and various omiyage (souvenir) for those who want to bring gifts to friends back to their own town. This establishment can also be used as a waiting/resting stop as it has a mini lounge with free WiFi.

From Rumoi JR Station, walk south going to Sakaimachi following Route 21. Okatteya Moe is about 230 meters away.

Week 56: November 21 – 25, 2022 Day 385: November 21, 2022 Monday – Rumoi It’s a rainy morning. I was shocked by the news that Jason David Frank died today. He is well-known for his role as Tommy Oliver or simply Green Ranger in the hit show Power Rangers. He would forever be remembered by the 90s kids like me. RIP Green Ranger .
