Day 433: January 8, 2023
Sunday – Hiking Ameyama
Good morning! It's a foggy morning. Thankfully, the weather would be better according to the weather forecast. Mr. Toshi prepared sukiyaki for us for breakfast. Around 9 AM, as scheduled, Andy and I left to walk going to Ameyama.

Thank you, Mr. Toshi, for preparing your delicious sukiyaki |
 |
Almost there! That torii gate means that we are already at the peak of Ameyama |
Ameyama (雨山) is a 314-meter mountain in the town of Kumatori (熊取町) in Osaka Prefecture. To get to its jump-off point, we walked for half an hour from Kameyama Residence towards Eiraku Dam. I have already conquered Ameyama way back in 2014. It was also the first mountain that I hiked here in Japan.

Summit reached! |
Ameyama offers a wonderful view. From the north, you can view Kansai International Airport, and on a clear day, Kobe City in Hyogo Prefecture can also be seen. The Wakayama Prefecture's mountains are seen from the south. We also saw the Ameyama Ruined Castle at the peak.
 |
We passed by this beautiful street on our way home. |
We spent about 30 minutes on the summit. We then made our way back to the Kameyama Residence and when we arrived, no one was there as they went to get a haircut. Regardless, they arrived a few minutes later.
 |
Off to Kaizuka City for dinner |
 |
Mori o Komichi |
That evening, we dined at Mori no Komichi in Kaizuka City (貝塚市). It is an Italian restaurant surrounded by nature, which gives it a wonderful ambiance. The dinner was a little costly, but it was great. We tried the set meal and I particularly loved its pizza.

The repurposed train outside the restaurant. You can eat inside it if you reserved |
 |
This is one of the best pizza that I have tried here in Osaka so far |
We returned to Kameyama's house before taking Andy to Hineno Station. It was enjoyable bonding with him, and in some ways, because we talked a lot about his enthusiasm for marathons, I was motivated to stay active and do what I enjoy, such as hiking and bicycling. Hopefully, someday, I can join him run marathons.
 |
We had another great time with our Japanese family and also with Andy. |
This has been another amazing week for us. We made new acquaintances and visited new locations. However, this is our final week with the Kameyama family as we go to Kyoto tomorrow for the next chapter of our Winter Vacation.
