Weekend 112: December 23 – 24, 2023
Day 782: December 23, 2023
Saturday – Rumoi
It was a serene and snowy Saturday, a typical winter day that we had designated as "Chore Day." Our agenda was filled with tasks to maintain our household, beginning with the laundry and a thorough cleaning of our home.

After completing the first set of chores, we geared up for a grocery run. Around 11 AM, we set out, driving to Ebata Dental Clinic for our dental appointment and then to COOP to stock up on essentials for both our daily needs and the upcoming Christmas dinner with friends. I also got to buy the new KitKat Red and White flavor.

Returning home, we unloaded our groceries and took a break for lunch. Following the meal, I embarked on another solo mission, driving to Serufu Rumoi to refuel our vehicle, Ruru, and replenish our kerosene tanks. Back home, I efficiently unloaded the kerosene tanks and refilled the main tank before we set out once more, this time to Jabba Laundromat to dry our recently washed clothes – the final chore on our list for the day.

As the evening descended, my wife took charge of making kimchi, adding a touch of culinary warmth to the chilly day. Before winding down, we indulged in a few episodes of Forensic Files, bringing a perfect end to our productive yet eventful "Chore Day."
Day 783: December 24, 2023
Sunday – Rumoi
It’s another cold day here in Rumoi City.

We decided not to go out today but instead stay home and watch some films and documentaries. We watched the Indian crime documentary Curry and Cyanide and then the 2023 comedy/fantasy film Trolls Band Together.

While waiting for midnight (December 25), my wife made some dishes for us for what we refer to as Noche Buena back in the Philippines.

If my family weren’t here, probably I would have flown back to the Philippines during this season, as it’s going to be a lonely day for me here alone, especially since Japan does not celebrate Christmas like most Filipinos do.
Overall, I’m thankful to be able to celebrate Christmas Eve with my family here in Japan. It’s not something many foreigners can do. However, hopefully, we get to celebrate it with my parents, siblings, and relatives next time.
