Day 768: December 9, 2023
Saturday – Rumoi
Today is the hottest day of this year’s winter with temperatures expected to rise to 11 degrees by noon.

The significant snowmelt prompted us to seize the opportunity and carry out our scheduled tasks for the day. Our initial stop was at Ebata Dental Clinic for my wife's dental appointment, followed by a visit to COOP for grocery shopping and a quick trip to Jabba Laundromat to dry our clothes. These activities comprised our agenda before heading back home.

Upon our return, I noticed that the snow around our house had substantially melted. Eager to utilize the chance, I spent time digging around Chidori Children’s Center in the hopes of finding my wife's phone. Unfortunately, despite hours of effort to clear the remaining snow, I was unsuccessful. Accepting the reality, I acknowledged that we might not retrieve the phone until spring, once the snow has completely thawed.

Feeling exhausted, I made my way back home, where my wife had prepared a comforting hot meal. After a satisfying lunch, I took a short nap, and in the evening, we indulged in watching a couple of films. Our movie night started with the 2023 thriller/drama "Leave the World Behind," followed by the 2023 horror/mystery film "Scream VI." Both films captivated us, keeping us on the edge of our seats, anticipating the next turn of events.

Post-movie, we decided to call it an early night, especially since the kids were feeling under the weather, suspecting they may have caught the flu.
Day 769: December 10, 2023
Sunday – Rumoi
The chill in the air is growing more pronounced, signaling the onset of colder days. Unfortunately, our health has taken a toll, forcing us to abandon our initial plan of venturing to Nishimatsuya to secure feeding essentials for baby Kai. A day of rest at home became the more prudent choice.

Later in the evening, at around 11 PM, a surprise visit from our neighbor, Sato-sensei, unfolded. To our amazement, he returned my wife's missing phone, a possession we had reluctantly given up on finding. The phone, which had been lost for about 10 days and buried in snow, miraculously still worked flawlessly. It was a moment of unexpected joy and relief.

As a wind-down to the day, I indulged in the latest war documentary series on Netflix, "World War 2: From the Frontlines." Following that, I tuned in to the NHK documentary "We Did It, Grandpa!" It served as an excellent opportunity to impart valuable lessons to Ella about respecting individuals with disabilities.

In retrospect, this weekend was well-spent, allowing us to cherish precious moments together as a family. The retrieval of my wife's phone added an extra layer of significance, turning what could have been an ordinary weekend into a memorable one. Grateful for these simple joys and looking forward to a healthier week ahead.
