The fireworks show usually starts around 6:30 pm and lasts for approximately an hour. The display features a wide variety of fireworks, including traditional Japanese shells as well as newer styles like sparklers and multi-colored rockets. The grand finale is typically the most spectacular part of the show, featuring a burst of brightly colored fireworks that light up the night sky. The number of fireworks also varies as the 2022 Rumoi Fireworks Festival was promoted to use around 1000 fireworks.

The Rumoi Fireworks Festival has been held annually for over 100 years, with the first festival taking place in 1909. The event attracts thousands of people each year from across Japan and around the world, making it one of the most popular summer festivals in Hokkaido. The festival was canceled in the past years due to the pandemic. It was finally held again this 2022. This year, there were more or less a thousand people from different parts of Hokkaido who attended the festival.

Thank you Kanda-sensei and Ikuko-san for accompanying us in watching the Rumoi Fireworks Festival. I hope we could come again next year.

My family and I experienced the Rumoi Fireworks Festival for the first time last August 11, 2022, which was also the Mountain Day / Yama no Hi (山の日) holiday here in Japan. It was also my 41st week as an ALT under the JET Programme. During this event, Kanda-sensei and Ikuko-san accompanied us which made the experience even more memorable.
