道の駅 えんべつ富士見

Formally called Roadside Station Embetsu Fujimi (道の駅 えんべつ富士見), Embetsu Roadside Station is one of the first roadside stations in Hokkaido. It was registered as a roadside station last April 22, 1993, and was given registration number 8. The original roadside station was on top of the hill inside Fujimigaoka Park. It can still be seen to this day.

A new facility was built below and reopened as Roadside Station Embetsu Fujimi on April 24, 2020. The new roadside station facility houses clean toilets, a rest area, a souvenir shop to buy products made in Embetsu, and also a 100 yen shop. Aside from that Embetsu Roadside Station also houses a food court.

The roadside station is located in Fujimigaoka Park and also serves as its main entryway and parking area. The hill behind Embetsu Roadside Station offers a good view of Mt. Rishirifuji on a clear day. Also, on the top of the hill is the old roadside station building. Sadly, it’s closed to the public. The park also has its own observatory and golf course.

My family and I visited Embetsu Roadside Station for the first time last August 12, 2022which was my 41st week here in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. It was one of the destinations that we visited on the 1st day of our 5-day Drive Up North Road Trip. I made sure to include it in our itinerary as I was collecting the roadside station stamps for the Hokkaido Roadside Station Stamp Rally. During our visit, we bought lunch at Restaurant Minakuru. My daughter and I also got to explore Fujimigaoka Park a little as well.
