According to historical records, Shinshuura Norisuke built a small shrine on the current precincts.  A year later, another shrine was built in the village to enshrine Okuninushi no Okami and Emperor Jinmu. This shrine was moved to Nakacho 3-4 home in 1909 and a year later the main hall and worship hall was built at the current location.

My family and I first visited Fukagawa Shrine on August 6, 2022, which was my 278th day in Japan as an ALT through the JET Programme. We went to pay our respects and to pray for a safe trip during our visit to the city.

Why visit Fukagawa Shrine?

Fukagawa Shrine is the main shrine of Fukagawa City. It serves most of the households in the city. Visitors come over to offer prayers for success and safety and also to pay respects. In my own belief, I get to make a wish whenever I visit a shrine for the first time. In that way, that makes me excited to visit all shrines in the prefecture. It's also a must-visit if you collect goshuin.

Getting to Fukagawa Shrine:

From Asahikawa JR Station, ride the JR Lilac Kamui train to Fukagawa Station. From there, the shrine is 1.1 kilometers away.
