Japan Diaries 4: Day 384

Day 384: November 20, 2022

Sunday – Asahikawa Road Trip

It’s another beautiful day here in Rumoi City, that’s why we went on another road trip. For our adventure today, we drove east to revisit Asahikawa City (旭川市).

Suddenly, fog blanketed the road. In some parts, you won't be able to see the vehicle 20 feet from you

It was very sunny in Rumoi City when we left however when we got to the area of Numata (沼田町), we were shocked to see that thick fog had blanketed the area. There were also places where there was already snow. Thankfully, it cleared when we exited the highway.

The vicinity of our first destination for the day - Asahiyama Zoo has already snowed. My daughter was of course ecstatic about this as she wanted to see snow. As for me, I’m not that excited to see it as it shows me that it’s already winter season. This only means that we would have less travel as museums all around Hokkaido are already closed and driving would be dangerous. Regardless, winter is beautiful in a way as it offers a different set of adventures for our family like skiing and the winter festivals.

Going back, we spent most of the day inside Asahiyama Zoo. We were all happy to see a lot of different animals but what made me happier was seeing my wife and daughter enjoy this trip.

We left a little before closing time and since it was still early, we drove to the nearby Asahikawa Shrine so that I could pay respects and offer some prayers.

From there, we went to the AEON Asahikawa West Store in the Midorimachi district of Asahikawa City to buy a bucket meal chicken from the KFC in its food court before driving back home.

We got home a little after 6 PM. We ate dinner before calling it a day. The KFC meal was so satisfying. We last had one during our visit to Tomakomai City last October 8, 2022. It was a perfect meal to end the day.

Overall, we weren’t able to visit any new municipalities in Hokkaido this week, but we did manage to see new destinations in Asahikawa City. See you guys on our next adventure.
