Kamuiwa Park (神居岩総合公園) is a beautiful multipurpose park that's popular for golfers and also those who love nature. It is located on the outskirts of Rumoi City in Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan.

Kamuiwa Park was built in a valley 5 kilometers east of Rumoi City proper. To date, it is the largest park in the city.

Kamuiwa Park has a 4-course 36-hole golf course open from May to October. It is officially recognized by the Japan Park Golf Association.
Kamuiwa Park Cherry Blossoms
Kamuiwa Park is also a popular cherry blossom viewing area. As a matter of fact, there are approximately 1,500 Ezoyamazakura and Yaezakura trees in the park. These trees bloom around early or mid-May annually. Aside from the Sakura trees, hundreds of moss phlox and azalea are also on the park grounds.

Aside from that, there is also a free campsite which is open from May to October. However, there are no bath areas here but the nearby Kamuiwa Hotel has a very affordable onsen (hot spring) for those who want to relax or freshen up.

Kamuiwa Park is also very kid-friendly with numerous playset facilities on its grounds for kids of all ages. My favorite is the zipline and the obstacle course while my daughter loved the slide set.

We were lucky because, during our visit, the Sakura trees were almost in full bloom. However, since we didn't have a car, we had to walk about 1.5 kilometers from our place to the park. It was the same case when we were going home as there is no public transportation going to Kamuiwa Park.

Kamuiwa Operating Hours
Kamuiwa Park's Campsite is open 24/7 every May - October. The public toilet is also open 24/7.
The golf course is open from May - to October 8AM - 5PM.

Kamuiwa Park is the best place to go if you are in Rumoi and you want to experience a hanami (sakura blossom viewing). It's also one of the recommended places to golf if you are in the prefecture. Aside from that, it’s near Kamuiwa Hotel which offers a day-trip bath at a very affordable price. You might want to check it out too.
Getting to Kamuiwa Park
The best way to reach Kamuiwa Park from the city proper is by car.

However, if you don't have one then you will have to walk 3.3 kilometers eastward from JR Rumoi Station to the park. It will take about 40 - 50 minutes.

It's the first time that I heard of Kamuiwa Park. I'm surprised to see how beautiful it is.

DeleteWhere else would you recommend for Sakura viewing in Northern & Eastern Hokkaido?
ReplyDeleteEach town has a "main park" that has several sakura trees in it. However, these are not as grand as those in Sapporo or Hakodate. There are "shibasakura" blossoms worth checking out like that in Takinoue. This isn't like the common sakura but it's worth seeing.
