Hokkaido Seabird Center Revisited 2022

It was only last March 20, 2022, when I last went to the Hokkaido Seabird Center. It was one of the places that I visited in Haboro during my stopover in town during my solo road trip to Wakkanai City.

As mentioned I was alone during my first visit and aside from that, it was also winter season when I first visited. This means that there was almost no one in the Hokkaido Seabird Center during most of my stay not to mention the deep snow around the center.

Hokkaido Seabird Center- Haboro Town, Hokkaido Prefecture

The Hokkaido Seabird Center is the only facility of its kind not only in Hokkaido but also in all of Japan. This facility promotes a deeper understanding of seabirds through interactive displays and also through videos and exhibits. It is located at 1 chome Kita 6 Jo in the town of Haboro in Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan.

I got to revisit the Hokkaido Seabird Center last July 16, 2022, which was my 37th weekend here in Japan as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) under the JET Programme. What was different about this visit was that it was already summer and the roses in the Haboro Rose Garden beside the Hokkaido Seabird Center were in full bloom filling the air with the distinct scent of roses.

More than that, during this visit, I was finally with my family making this trip more memorable than the last.

During our visit, we got to learn new things together. I was surprised that there was information that I had missed last time like the specific information about the birds living on Teuri Island off the coast of Haboro. There were also some panels that you need to pull out which contain more information about the different seabirds.

Last time, I only had a selfie here...

Overall, Hokkaido Seabird Center is worth revisiting particularly if you want to know more about the seabirds in Rumoi Subprefecture. The place would surely deepen your understanding and knowledge of these beautiful creatures.
