This unique-looking structure was built to protect the old port of Wakkanai from windstorms and high waves. 10 Things to Do in Toyotomi Toyotomi ( 豊富町 ) is a town in the Soya Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan. The name is derived from the Ainu word " Ebekorobetsu " (ipe-kor-pet) which means "a river with fish (food)". Since the region is rich in natural resources, it was given the name Toyotomi, which is an alternative reading of the Chinese characters for the term houfu (豊富), which means "rich" or "abundant".
