Day 860: March 10, 2024
Sunday – Rumoi x Moekko Haru Festival
It was a sunny morning, though the weather forecast said
there might be snow. Today, Rumoi City was celebrating the Moekko Haru Matsuri,
or the “Waiting for Spring Festival.” Of course, we couldn’t miss it.
After breakfast, we drove to Rumoi Roadside Station, where
the festival was scheduled from 11 AM to 2:30 PM. We arrived around 10:30 AM,
giving us plenty of time to explore the area before the events started.
 |
| We enjoyed watching the Banba Race. Last year, the teachers of Rumoi High School joined this one |
The highlight of the festival was the Banba Race,
where teams of eight people dragged a herring boat weighing around 700
kilograms from one end of Senba Park to the other. Last year, I joined the
Rumoi High School Teachers team, and we placed 4th, but this year, we did not
participate because there were not enough younger members willing to join. It
was still fun cheering for my students as they competed.
 |
| We also enjoyed the Taiko drum performance |
We also enjoyed other festival activities, such as the taiko
drum performance and a janken game. The energy of the crowd and the rhythm
of the drums made the festival lively and exciting.
 |
| We appreciate the books and the warmth of the library |
Since Kai started feeling cold, we did not stay until the
end of the festival. We went to Rumoi City Library, a warm and spacious
place where he could play and explore. The library has a special room for
babies and young kids, with soft crawlable spaces and a collection of cloth
books that Kai loved. We spent about two hours there before leaving for a quick
lunch.

| 711 Hanazonocho |
 |
| Jabba Laundromat |
 |
| It's laundry time! |
 |
| We ate our snacks from 711 while waiting for our laundry |
Our next stop was 711 Hanazonocho, where we bought
some food. After that, we went to Jabba Laundromat for our usual weekend
laundry routine. While waiting for the laundry, we enjoyed our snacks in the
laundromat’s bar area, which has become a little weekend ritual for us.
 |
| We then went to Nishimatsuya to buy some stuff for Kai |
 |
| Looking for spring clothes for Kai |
 |
| Last stop for the day: MaxValu |
From there, we went to Nishimatsuya to pick up baby
supplies for Kai, including toys and baby food. Our last stop for the day was MaxValu
to buy groceries. By the time we got home, it was around 5 PM. We spent the
evening watching several episodes of the Korean zombie series Happiness
before calling it a day.
Overall, it was a weekend well spent with the family. We
managed to finish household chores and enjoy the Moekko Haru Matsuri. We are
looking forward to what Week 124 will bring.
