Weekend 123: March 9 - 10, 2024
Day 859: March 9, 2024
Saturday – Rumoi
It’s a frigid but sunny Saturday here in Rumoi City. We spent the morning doing household chores. We originally planned to go to Rumoi City Library after, but decided to move it to tomorrow as there were a lot of things to do at home. Aside from cleaning the house, I also did yukikaki or snow cleaning at the back of our home, and also installed the car seat on Ruru.

I installed the car seat on Ruru. We're now ready for this year's road trip
That afternoon, after finishing our chores, my wife and I were able to make some videos for our Facebook Page: JapaNice Adventures. We also spent a lot of time with our children.
Overall, it was a tiring but fulfilling Saturday with all the chores done. We are looking forward to our plans tomorrow.
Day 860: March 10, 2024
Sunday – Rumoi x Moekko Haru Festival
It’s a sunny morning, but with chances of snow according to the weather forecast. Today, Rumoi City is celebrating the Moekko Haru Matsuri, or Waiting for Spring Festival.

We enjoyed watching the Taiko Drum Performance
Of course, we won’t miss it. After breakfast, we drove to Rumoi Roadside Station, where the activities would be held. The Moekko Haru Matsuri was held from 11 AM to 2:30 PM. Since we arrived at the roadside station at around 10:30 AM, we had plenty of time to explore the area before the festival events started.

... and of course, we also enjoyed watching the highlight of the day, which was the Banba Race
The highlight of the Moekko Haru Matsuri was the Banba Race, where a team consisting of 8 people dragged a herring boat that weighed around 700 kilograms from one end of Senba Park to the other. Last year, I was part of the Rumoi High School Teachers team, and we were able to place 4th. This year, we didn’t participate due to the lack of younger willing members.
It was fun watching the race and cheering my students who joined the competition. Aside from the race, there were also other things which we enjoyed at the festival, like the janken game and the taiko drum performance.

It wasn't only us who enjoyed the books in the library
We didn’t stay until the end of the festival as Kai was already feeling cold. So from the festival venue, we drove to Rumoi City Library so that Kai would have a warmer, more spacious place to stay. The library has a room for babies and smaller kids where they can crawl around. There are also a lot of “cloth books” that Kai enjoyed touching.

Last stop for the day - MaxValu
Our last stop for the day was at MaxValu to buy groceries. It was around 5 PM when we got back home. We watched several episodes of the Korean zombie series “Happiness” before calling it a day.
Overall, it was a weekend well spent with the family. We were able to do household chores and also head out to attend the Moekko Haru Matsuri. We are looking forward to what Week 124 has to offer.
