Sapporo Grand Hotel details
Located in the heart of Sapporo's vibrant Chūō district, the Sapporo Grand Hotel is a testament to elegance and history. Dating back to 1928, the hotel's conception was sparked by Prince Chichibu's vision during a skiing excursion, recognizing the need for Western-style lodging in the city. Four years later, in 1934, its majestic doors swung open, marking the dawn of a new era in hospitality.

Hotel Information |
Dubbed the "Northern Guesthouse," the hotel welcomed luminaries from Japan's political and business spheres, earning admiration and esteem from the city's residents. Yet, this prestige also veiled an air of exclusivity, making the hotel somewhat inaccessible to the public. However, a turning point arrived in 1935 when the hotel graciously opened its doors to host Sapporo's inaugural Christmas party, marking a shift towards inclusivity. Introducing affordable Western delicacies like salmon steaks and apple pies, the hotel endeared itself to the local community, evolving into a beloved institution.

Despite enduring the ravages of World War II, wherein it served under U.S. Army requisition until its renaissance in 1952, the Sapporo Grand Hotel emerged stronger, embodying resilience and fortitude. The evolution continued in 1976 with the demolition of the original structure, giving rise to a majestic seventeen-story edifice that proudly stands today.

Our stay in Sapporo Grand Hotel wasn’t actually in our plan when we were planning our winter vacation but my wife discovered that there was a discounted room deal for Sapporo Grand Hotel. The deal was so good that the price of the room was almost half its original price. The amazing deal didn’t end there though. When we checked in, we were given 10,000 yen worth of coupons as part of the Hokkaido Support Coupon program which was aimed to help the post-COVID economy of Japan.
