Kamifurano (上富良野町) is a town nestled in the Kamikawa Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan. The name of the town means North Furano. It takes its name from the Ainu word "Fura-nui," which means "Stinky Flame" or "Foul-Smelling Place," in the language of the indigenous people of Hokkaido. This is most likely because the valley was associated with sulfuric fumaroles near Tokachi Peak.

1. Take a picture of the manhole covers of Kamifurano. So far, I have seen 2 unique manhole covers. The colored version is installed in Hinode Park while the other one is commonly found around town.
2. Take a picture of the Kamifurano Pokemon manhole cover. It is installed inside Hinode Park. It features Alolan Vulpix and Delcatty.
3. Visit the Kamifurano Shrine (上富良野神社). It’s the main shrine of the town of Kamifurano. You can pay your respects and offer prayers here at any time of the day. Don’t forget to avail yourself of the shrine’s goshuin if you are collecting them.
4. Drive along the scenic Panorama Road Ebana (パノラマロード江花). You may take a picture here, but you should be mindful of the passing vehicles since there are no designated parking areas.

5. Learn the town's history at the Kamifurano Town Folk Museum (上富良野町 郷土館). Numerous displays here will help you understand how the town came to be and its relationship with nature, particularly Mt. Tokachi.

6. Pitch a tent and stay overnight at Hakuginso Campsite (施設概要キャンプ場). This campsite is at the foot of Mt. Tokachi. It’s also a popular winter camping area.

8. Have fun taking pictures inside the Trick Art Museum (トリックアート美術館). There are numerous optical illusion paintings here that are worth taking pictures of.
9. Explore Hinode Park (日の出公園). Visit from May to September to see the flowers in this vast park in full bloom. The park is also illuminated during the Lavender Festa, held from early July to mid-July. In winter, this place turns into a ski resort.

10. Hike Mt. Kamifurano (上富良野岳). This mountain is one of the peaks of Daisetsuzan National Park. You can start your hike at Hakuginso Campsite.
