Kitasaito Garden - Hokkaido

Asahikawa Kitasaito Garden (あさひかわ北彩都ガーデンセンター) or simply Kitasaito Garden, is a lovely community garden that is part of the Miyamae Park. It runs from Asahikawa Station to Moriyama Hospital. It is located at 1 Chome-1 Miyamae 2 Jo, Asahikawa City, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan.

Kitasaito Garden details

Kitasaito Garden is part of the Kitasaito Asahikawa Project, which encourages large-scale urban development surrounding Asahikawa Station. It was created with the goal of improving the city center's appearance and generating a dynamic atmosphere.

The expansive grounds of Kitasaito Garden are designed as an "inner-city sanctuary," and are home to some 80,000 plants from more than 300 distinct species. The Chubetsugawa River flows through the garden's southern side, and on a clear day, visitors may see the stunning views of Mt. Daisetsuzan and Asahikawa's expansive landscape. This is the place for you if you're seeking a tranquil setting to escape city life.

Team Nicerio visits Kitasaito Garden

My family and I visited Kitasaito Garden for the first time last May 14, 2022, which was my 194th day here in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. Kitasaito Garden was not originally on our itinerary for that day but while crossing Kitasaito Bridge on our way back to Hotel Amanek, we saw the Starbucks and the scenic Kagami Pond (鏡池) which drew us to the garden. 

If you love coffee, don't forget to visit the Starbucks at Kitasaito Garden

We didn’t miss the opportunity to explore the flower garden on the southeast side of the pond. The place has a lot of photo spots and is highly recommended.

Overall, it was a perfect side trip, and given the time, we would love to revisit Kitasaito Garden and stay there longer.

It’s FREE to enter and explore Kitasaito Garden.

Kitasaito Garden Operating Hours

Kitasaito Garden is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (until 5:00 p.m. from November to April). If you're too early or missed its operating hours, you can still stroll around the vast Miyamae Park.

Why visit Kitasaito Garden?

Kitasaito Garden is a place to visit if you want to unwind and relax. Its location near Asahikawa JR Station in the heart of the city is very convenient, especially for those who are waiting for their next train. Heads up though, you might want to set an alarm as it is very easy to forget the time when strolling around Kitasaito Garden.

Getting to Kitasaito Garden:


Board a train going to Asahikawa JR Station. Once there, exit at the south exit of the station.

If you are coming by car, Kitasaito Garden is about 30 minutes by car from Asahikawa Airport. There is a parking lot near Moriyama Hospital.

Located in Barangay San Pedro in Sto. Tomas in the province of Batangas, the National Shrine of St. Padre Pio is a pilgrimage site dedicated and inspired by Saint Padre Pio.
