Only a few hours drive south of Manila, Batangas is a province that is rich in history, food, and sights. It also has several destinations that is ideal for those looking for a weekend getaway.

For those who are planning to do this, here are my Top 10 Things to Do in Batangas:

1. Buy a balisong (or any bladed weapon) as a souvenir.

2. Take a dip in Shercon Resort and Ecology Park's 9 Pocket Pool in the town of Mataas na Kahoy.

3. Taste any of Batangas' delicacies.

4. Go on a pilgrimage to the Spanish colonial era churches and numerous shrines of the province.

5. Ride a boat across Taal Lake and hike to the crater of the very famous Taal Volcano.

6. Hike the picturesque Mt. Batulao.

7. Go island hopping

Munting Buhangin Beach Camp - Batangas

Located in the municipality of Nasugbu in the province of Batangas, Munting Buhangin Beach Camp is one of the few privately owned resorts in the area that doesn't really require memberships for visitors to enjoy. Munting Buhangin Beach Camp Munting Buhangin Beach Camp Details Although Munting Buhangin Beach Camp doesn't have white sand to boast, it's quite an isolated place which makes the resort stand out. Its light brown sand, sprinkled with different kinds of shells, is cleaned daily by the dedicated staff of the resort. Sadly, during my visit, a broken piece of glass buried in the sand gave one of my toes a deep cut but I know that it's just a rare case (no one needs to be fired) and nobody wanted that to happen. Juan and Antonio Luna Museum - Ilocos Norte

Located in Barangay Garreta in the town of Badoc in Ilocos Norte, Juan and Antonio Luna Museum is the two-story ancestral home of the Luna clan which presently serves as a museum for the Luna brothers. Juan and Antonio Luna Museum Juan and Antonio Luna Museum History: Built sometime in the early 19th century, the ancestral house of the Lunas is a typical  Bahay na Tisa  which was common particularly to the middle and upper-class society during the Spanish colonial period. Sadly, the original structure was damaged by fire in 1861. The house was then ceded to the government in 1954. The Department of Public Works and Highways and the National Historical Institute completed its restoration in 1977. The house then became a museum for the Luna brothers. Patungan Beach - Cavite

Located in Barangay Sta. Mercedes (Patungan) in Maragondon , Cavite, Patungan Beach is one of the province's little-known beach destinations. It is situated inside Patungang Cove which is south of Mt. Palay Palay which is also known as Pico de Loro . Patungan Beach Patungan Beach Details The area near Patungan Beach is home to about 100 - 200 families, most of which are fishermen hence the alternate name of the barangay - Patungan Fishing Village . According to the locals that I interviewed, their place was once an isolated  barangay , reachable only by boat, horse, or foot. Thankfully, with the completion of the  Nasugbu - Ternate Highway  and  Kaybiang Tunnel , the barangay was finally connected to the province.
