Day 460: February 4, 2023
Saturday – 73rd Sapporo Snow Festival D1
Getting ready to board the bus |
Excitement filled the air as my family and I woke up early for our trip to Sapporo City to experience the famous Sapporo Snow Festival. We had been looking forward to this for months, and we were finally here!

We're walking to our next destination for the day. |
Our journey started with an 8:30 AM ride on the Engan Rapid Express Bus from the Motokawa-cho bus stop in Rumoi City to Sapporo Station. As soon as we arrived, we made our way to Sapporo Washington Hotel Plaza to leave our luggage before heading out to our first activity of the day.
It is still worth revisiting |
We had a reservation for the All-You-Can-Eat Jingisukan at Kessel Hall in the Sapporo Beer Garden. We arrived an hour early, so we decided to revisit the Sapporo Beer Museum, which is also located in the same area. We learned more about the history of beer-making in Japan and even got to taste some of their famous beer. |
Itadakemasu! |
After our museum visit, we went to Kessel Hall and enjoyed our delicious meal. We had several rounds of Jingisukan, and it was so satisfying that we felt full and happy. |
Sapporo Factory |
It's our first time visiting Sapporo Factory |

Inside Sapporo Factory |
This location was used for a scene in Episode 5 of First Love. |
Next on our itinerary was a visit to Sapporo Factory, one of the shooting locations of the Japanese drama "First Love". As part of our travel goal, we wanted to visit all the shooting locations of the drama, and we have already been to 7 out of the 22 places on our list. We bought some dessert and rested for a while before heading back to the hotel. |

Our home for the night - Room 401 |
We checked in at Sapporo Washington Hotel Plaza and rested for a bit before heading out again to see the 73rd Sapporo Snow Festival in Odori Park. The park was crowded with people, but the Japanese culture of order prevailed. We followed the designated walking course, and there were people on the route to keep it moving. There were also frequent announcements about safety and the conditions of the paths.
73rd Sapporo Snow Festival
We marveled at the giant snow sculptures with image projection mapping that came to life before our very eyes. We walked through each Chome of Odori Park to see every snow sculpture there. We wanted to see the ice sculptures in Susukino as well, but we were already tired from walking all day, so we decided to go there tomorrow.

Riding the subway back to Sapporo Station |
Back to Sapporo Washington Hotel Plaza to finally call it a day |
After a long and exciting day, we returned to Sapporo Washington Hotel Plaza at around 10 PM. Before calling it a day, we took turns taking a dip in the hot tub. The hot water was so relaxing that I lost track of time and slept way past midnight.
This is how we rest after a long day of walking |
Overall, our first day in Sapporo City was an unforgettable experience, it was cold but and we can't wait to see how the snow festival looks like in the morning!Day 461: February 5, 2023
Sunday – 73rd Sapporo Snow Festival Day 2
It's a new day. The best way to start it is by eating a delicious breakfast |
Itadakemasu! |
My favorite dish in the breakfast buffet was the chirashizushi |
We rested a bit before checking out of Sapporo Washington Hotel Plaza |
Today marks the last day of our Sapporo trip, but we still have some places to visit before heading back home. We started the day by having our complimentary breakfast on the 2nd floor of Sapporo Washington Hotel Plaza before checking out at 9 AM. The food was great, especially the chirashizushi, of which I had more than five bowls.
We left our bags in this locker in Sapporo Station |
We're back to Susukino |
Susukino's famed Nikka billboard |
Susukino Ice World
Our first stop for the day was Sapporo Station, where we purchased a Donichika Ticket to ride the subway going to Susukino to see the famous Susukino Ice World. Unlike the snow sculptures in Odori Park, the sculptures in Susukino were made from blocks of ice and were stunning. However, I believe the ice sculptures are more beautiful to look at at night because of the additional lights.

Next time, I'd like to ride the Sapporo Street Car |
After that, we went to Mega Don Quixote in Tanuki Koji Shopping Street to look for some Filipino ingredients for my wife's dishes. Since Odori Park was only a few blocks away, we decided to drop by and see what the snow sculptures looked like in the morning. Although the sculptures were still beautiful, I agree that it's better to visit Odori Park at night to see their full beauty.
After that, we headed down to the subway system to explore it |
One of the places that we visited was the Kaldi Coffee Farm to buy some ingredients |
I got the Special KitKat Valentine's Day |
We didn't stay long, and we returned to Sapporo Station to rest before our 6 PM Engan Rapid Express bus back to Rumoi City. We wanted to visit other destinations like the Pokemon Center Sapporo and the Shiroi Koibito Park, but we were already drained from walking and the cold weather.
Early dinner at McDonald's in Sapporo Station |
I got a Samurai Burger |
Salty but good! |
