Day 489: March 5, 2023
Sunday – Takikawa x Asahikawa
Driving through the Numata - Rumoi Expressway |
It's another beautiful winter morning here in Rumoi City, and the day feels perfect for an outing. We’ve planned an exciting trip, starting with a visit to Takikawa City in the morning to shop for maternity clothes for my wife, and then heading to Asahikawa City in the afternoon for my driving practice at the Asahikawa Driver’s License Center.

Crossing Takikawa's Fureai Bridge |
2nd Street Takikawa |
We left Rumoi at around 8 AM, making our way to Takikawa City (滝川市). Our first stop was 2nd Street Takikawa, where we began our shopping. While the goal was to find maternity clothes for my wife, I ended up finding a few stylish pieces for myself too—it was hard to resist!
We went to the wrong entrance which was at Takikawa City Central Children's Center |

The view of Takikawa City from the museum |
True enough, the museums did not disappoint. The fossil collection inside the
Takikawa Museum of Art and Natural History was fascinating, and the interactive exhibits in the science museum kept Ella thoroughly entertained. It was definitely a great addition to our trip, and I’m glad we included it in our day.
Time to leave Takikawa City and go to Asahikawa City |
AEON Mall West Store - Asahikawa City |
Saizeriya |
The food here is very affordable |
Lunch time at Saizeriya! Itadakimasu! |
At around 1 PM, we left Takikawa and headed toward Asahikawa City (旭川市). Hunger hit us by the time we arrived at Aeon Mall West Store in Midorimachi, so we went straight to Saizeriya for lunch. This was only the second time my wife and I had eaten there, the first being when I took my driver’s license written exam a few months ago. We loved the food then, but Ella wasn’t with us on that visit, which is why we made it a point to dine there today.
There was a shrine display inside the mall where visitors could write their wishes on ema boards |
This is what Ella wrote... 💖💖💖 |

There was also a spring decoration in the mall where visitors could take photos |
Trying out the Sakura Blooming Saku Frappuccino |
Sakura Blooming Saku Frappuccino |
We ordered our favorites again, and to our delight, Ella enjoyed the meal as much as we did. With some time left before my driving practice, we stopped by Starbucks in the mall to grab coffee and relax. I decided to try the 2023 limited-time Sakura Blooming Saku Frappuccino—though it was good, I still prefer my all-time favorite, the coffee jelly.
Asahikawa Driver’s License Center |
At around 5:30 PM, we left Aeon and made our way to the
Asahikawa Driver’s License Center for my 6 to 8 PM driving course reservation. This was my last session for the month, and now all that’s left is to wait for my practical driving test. Fingers crossed I pass and can finally get my Japanese driver’s license to explore
Japan more freely! We drove back to Rumoi City afterward, exhausted but happy. After a quick wash, we were ready to call it a day.
We got our number and I had 2 hours of self-driving experience in the Asahikawa Driver's License Center's driving course |
Overall, today was another productive and fulfilling day. We managed to resume our road trips and visit both Takikawa and Asahikawa, and I’m feeling much more confident with my driving. Hopefully, I’ll pass the exam soon and get closer to fulfilling our #Hokkaido179 adventure!
