It’s a beautiful sunny Monday! I don’t have any work today as the teachers in
Rumoi High School were given a special rest day after we reported for work last Saturday. After Ella left for school, my wife and I went on a walk to the Hanazonocho, Sakaemachi, and Funabacho districts of Rumoi City.

We first visited the Nagata Fresh Fish Shop (長田鮮魚店) to check out what fish they sell today.

Former Rumoi Station

From there, I told my wife that I wanted to see the former Rumoi JR Station. The station was closed during my birthday, and sadly, I wasn’t even able to ride it once. Regardless, it will always be part of my memory as it was one of the first places that I visited in Rumoi City when I got the chance to explore the city on my second day here in Rumoi City as an ALT under the JET Programme.

My wife and I then walked to Rumoi Roadside Station to rest a bit. I didn’t miss out on their delicious caramel coffee. We stayed there for about half an hour before we continued our walk—this time, around Senba Park.

After going around the park for one round, we decided to head back home. Before we did, we first stopped by COOP to buy some groceries.

The Mist (2007)
We watched The Mist (2007) and enjoyed it.

That afternoon, we watched the 2007 Horror/Thriller film The Mist so that my daughter could see it for the first time, as we talked about it after we experienced the sea fog in Hakodate last Monday. It was my fifth time watching the film, but it never gets old. It still is one of the best horror films on my list.

Overall, it was a day well spent as my pregnant wife and I got to walk a lot and exercise our legs today. We also got to bond as a family, which is one of the things that I treasure the most.

There are no classes yet today but the students were all busy with the orientation ceremonies the whole morning. After lunch, everyone was asked to go to the gym for the club orientation.

Movie night: Call Me Chihiro

After work, my pregnant wife and I went on a walk along the Rumoi River. It was quite windy and cold. Overall, we walked for about an hour and a half. Before calling it a day, we watched the 2022 Japanese drama film, Call Me Chihiro. It was a nice film and I enjoyed how Kasumi Arimura portrayed her character.

It’s a rainy morning here in Rumoi City. However, the weather forecast said that it would be sunny but windy before noon. For my work today, I’m back at Rumoi High School for work. The advisers are still busy with their orientations; hence, I still haven’t had any collaboration work.

Day 528: April 13, 2023

Thursday – Embetsu

I got this Missile warning
I got this Missile Warning because the North Koreans wanted to test their new toys

It’s a sunny day today, but the yellow sand from China is still making it look like it’s cloudy. To spice up the day, everyone in Hokkaido received an emergency message on their phones from the Japanese government about a missile shot by the North Koreans. I was already on the Engan bus bound for Embetsu when I received the message, so it added anxiety as I worried about the safety of my family back in Rumoi. Thankfully, my wife and I kept in touch until the threat passed.

It’s a beautiful sunny morning. I don’t have any school visits today, so I’m going to report for work at Rumoi High School. When I reached the school grounds, four large deer were grazing at the mini garden near the teacher’s entrance. It was a sight to behold. I almost forgot the time because of them. Anyway, as for my work today:

Orientation with Matsuda-sensei

3rd period – Jiko Shokai @ 1-34 of Matsuda-sensei
4th period – Orientation @ 1-1 of Matsuda-sensei
6th period – Jiko Shokai @ 1-56 of Matsuda-sensei

After work, I went to the Welcome Party nomikai of the English Department held at Osteria Cibo. It was another fun night, and we officially welcomed Nakagawa-sensei in the department.

Overall, I only visited Rumoi High School and Embetsu Agricultural High School this week. It’s also officially my collaboration work this school year.
