10 Things to Do in Mori |
Mori (森町) is a town in Hokkaido's Oshima Subprefecture, Japan. Its name comes from the Ainu word "Oniushi," meaning a place with many trees, which was later translated to the Japanese kanji for forest, “森.” It is the only town in Hokkaido referred to as "machi" (town) instead of "cho" (town).
For those planning to visit this picturesque town to check what it has to offer, here are the 10 Things to Do in Mori:

Kamiootaki Falls |
7. Drive to the far end of Route 606 and take in the breathtaking views of Kamiootaki Falls (上大滝), one of the eight scenic spots in Torizaki Valley. The best time to visit is in autumn when the foliage turns golden. This adds beauty to the falls. Just be cautious, as there have been bear sightings in the area in previous years.
Roadside Station "You-Yu-Mori"
8. Visit the Roadside Station "You-Yu-Mori" (道の駅YOU・遊・もり), one of Mori's two roadside stations. Here, you can purchase a variety of locally made and harvested products. The station also features an observatory lounge where visitors can enjoy stunning views of Mt. Komagatake and Oniushi Park.
9. Enjoy the sakura blossom viewing or hanami at Oniushi Park (オニウシ公園). This public park is located behind Roadside Station "You-Yu-Mori". It's one of the top hanami spots in the region.
10. Embark on a hike up Mt. Komagatake (北海道駒ヶ岳), an active volcano standing at 1,131 meters. This is one of the most challenging hikes in the prefecture, so be sure to bring a hiking pole for added support.
