One of the museum’s highlights is the prehistoric artifacts excavated from the Ebetsu Futo ruins, which are designated as important cultural properties. These remarkable artifacts, including the famed dogū figures from the Jōmon period, offer a rare glimpse into ancient life. The collection also features two assemblages of Zoku-Jōmon artifacts from the Motoebetsu I Site and the Ebetsubuto Site, both of which are nationally recognized for their cultural significance.

My family and I visited Ebetsu City Local History Museum for the first time on March 19, 2023, marking my 503rd day in Japan as an ALT with the JET Programme. This museum is probably the highlight of our visit to Ebetsu City. My family and I learned a lot about the history of the town and also admired the huge collection of butterflies from around the world.
