Tobetsu (当別町) is a town nestled in the Ishikari Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan. The town name is derived from the Ainu name for the Tobetsu River which is ``to-pet'' which means swamp or river.

1. Take a picture of the manhole cover of Tobetsu. So far, I have seen 1 unique manhole cover. It is the colored version that is installed in front of the Tobetsu Roadside Station.

2. Take a picture of the Tobetsu Pokemon manhole cover. It is installed near the main entrance of Tobetsu Roadside Station. It features Alolan Vulpix, Sinistea, and Polteageist.

3. Try the unique yellow and blue Sweden soft cream. You can buy it at Tobetsu Roadside Station. The blue color is amazake flavor while the yellow one is an elder yellow flavor.

4. Visit the Tobetsu Shrine (当別神社). It’s the main shrine of the town of Tobetsu. You can pay your respects and offer prayers here at any time of the day. Don’t forget to avail yourself of the shrine’s goshuin if you are collecting them.

5. Visit Leksand Memorial Park (レクサンド記念公園). It has a scenic view of the Swedish-style homes and the distant mountains. Don’t forget to take a picture of the Dalecarlian or Dala horse monument.

6. Visit Tobetsu Roadside Station (北欧の風 道の駅 とうべつ). It is formally called “The Nordic Winds Tobetsu” Roadside Station. There is a clean restroom, several souvenir shops, restaurants, and snack shops inside the roadside station. Aside from that, if you’re collecting roadside station stamps, then you should include this place in your itinerary.

7. Dine at Restaurant Ari (レストラン・アリ). It is an Italian Restaurant that serves delicious, authentic Italian food and also has an amazing ambiance.

8. Take a dip at the onsen of Futomi Meisen, Man’yo no Yu (ふとみ銘泉 万葉の湯). It’s located in the heart of the Futomimachi area of Tobetsu. You may choose to stay overnight or use the one-day onsen facility. There is also a restaurant inside this onsen hotel.

9. Pitch a tent and stay overnight at Domin no Mori Ichibangawa Area (道民の森 一番川地区). This place is far from the town proper, but it is a must-try if you love camping and also the outdoors.
