Ikeda (池田町) is an inland town located in Hokkaido’s Tokachi Subprefecture, Japan. The town is best known for its wine production. The area where the Tokachi River and Tobetsu River once converged—now the site of modern-day Ikeda—was originally called “Sei-or-sam” in the Ainu language, meaning “place near shells.” The Japanese later represented the name using Chinese characters and called it “Shibosamu.”
