The Backpack Adventures visits Rishirifuji Hot Spring

I first experienced Rishirifuji Hot Spring during my Mt. Rishiri hike last October 23, 2023, with the Tomamae Gang, Matsushita-sensei, and Jon. Being my 718th day in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme, the visit felt especially memorable. The day before our climb, we stopped by a nearby shrine, which added a meaningful cultural touch to our adventure.

Instead of camping, we opted for a cozy bungalow, which turned out to be the perfect choice. It provided a warm, comfortable space to rest before the hike, and its location was ideal—just a short walk from the onsen and the trailhead. Soaking in the healing waters of Rishirifuji Hot Spring after a day of exploring was incredibly relaxing. I especially appreciated how accessible and well-maintained the area is, with good lighting and proximity to town, making it an inviting retreat for anyone visiting Rishiri Island.
