Just 8 kilometers from the roadside station lies the Higashimokoto Moss Phlox Park, a must-visit destination. From mid-May to early June, the 100,000m² hillside transforms into a stunning carpet of vibrant pink and purple moss phlox, offering breathtaking views. The park also features seasonal camping (July to August), a fishing pond, go-karts, a day spa, and a foot bath, making it a fantastic spot for family fun and relaxation.

Visiting all the roadside stations is one of the secondary goals of our ambitious Hokkaido 179 journey, where we aim to explore all 179 municipalities in the prefecture. My family and I stopped at Roadside Station Nonky Land Higashimokoto for the first time on September 17, 2023, during the second day of our “3-Day Respect for the Aged Road Trip.” This memorable visit also marked my 685th day in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme.

As part of our Hokkaido 179 adventure, we are committed to exploring every roadside station in the region, not only to appreciate their unique offerings but also to collect their distinctive stamps. Roadside stations like Nonky Land Higashimokoto add an extra layer of excitement to our journey, making them a necessary and delightful part of this incredible travel experience.

 

Roadside Station Nonky Land Higashimokoto Admission Fee

Entry to Roadside Station Nonky Land Higashimokoto and the use of facilities, such as the toilets, restrooms, and information area, are completely FREE. However, it’s a good idea to bring cash in case you’d like to enjoy a meal at the restaurant or purchase locally made products as souvenirs.

As for the hotel, although walk-in guests are accepted, it is highly recommended that you call ahead and make a reservation to ensure you get a room.

Roadside Station Nonky Land Higashimokoto Operating Hours

The shop at Roadside Station Nonky Land Higashimokoto operates daily from 9 AM to 6 PM. The restaurant serves lunch from 11 AM to 3 PM and reopens for dinner from 5 PM to 8 PM. Note that you won’t be able to collect the roadside station stamp on days when the facility is closed, so plan your visit accordingly!

From Mokoto Station in Abashiri City, take the Abashiri Higashimokoto Line bus, operated by Abashiri Kankō Kōtsū Co., Ltd., and get off at the Higashimokoto Chuo bus stop, which is just a short walk from the roadside station.
