During summer, the Hokuseiyama Lavender Garden transforms
into a vibrant hill of relaxation adorned with colorful flowers. As you ascend
the mountain via the scenic 7-minute sightseeing lift, you’ll be greeted by
sweeping fields of lavender, sunflowers, marigolds, salvia, and other seasonal
blooms. With four distinct types of lavender and vibrant annual flowers
blanketing the hillside, the view is nothing short of magical.

At the summit, the observation deck offers a threefold
panorama:

Pro Tip: The best time to visit is from mid-June to
late August. Mark your calendar for the Lavender Festival and Fireworks

Winter Wonderland: Hokusei Ski Resort
When winter arrives, Hokuseiyama transforms into a snowy
retreat known as Hokusei Ski Resort. With slopes catering to all skill levels,
it’s a favorite for skiers seeking both groomed trails and a mini backcountry
experience on untouched powder. The ski lift operates from mid-January to early
March, depending on snowfall, ensuring an exhilarating ride to the top for
breathtaking winter views.
Important Notes for Visitors
- The
sightseeing lift is a single-seat ride, ensuring a peaceful ascent.
- For
safety reasons, passengers cannot bring luggage, children, or pets on the
lift.
- There
is a parking area available. It can accommodate around 80 cars and some
buses.

On July 23, 2023, I visited Nakafurano Hokuseiyama
Lavender Garden with my daughter and siblings during their vacation in
Hokkaido. It was my 629th day in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. This stunning flower garden was the first destination on our
itinerary that day, and we were fortunate to enjoy beautiful weather throughout
our visit. Without a doubt, this is a must-visit spot for anyone exploring
Nakafurano.
Nakafurano Hokuseiyama Lavender Garden Fees
The round-trip fare for the sightseeing lift at Nakafurano Hokuseiyama Lavender Garden is 700 yen for adults, including high school students and above, and 350 yen for children in elementary and junior high school. Infants can ride for free. Please note that two-seater rides are not available, and pets are not permitted on the lift.

Nakafurano Hokuseiyama Lavender Garden is open 24/7.
During the summer season, from June 14 to August 31, 2025, Nakafurano Hokuseiyama Lavender Garden is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Ticket sales and lift ticket reception close at 4:40 PM. Please note that Hokusei House and the shop will close once the last lift departs.
