Only a few hours drive south of Manila, Batangas is a province that is rich in history, food, and sights. It also has several destinations that is ideal for those looking for a weekend getaway.

For those who are planning to do this, here are my Top 10 Things to Do in Batangas:

1. Buy a balisong (or any bladed weapon) as a souvenir.

2. Take a dip in Shercon Resort and Ecology Park's 9 Pocket Pool in the town of Mataas na Kahoy.

3. Taste any of Batangas' delicacies.

4. Go on a pilgrimage to the Spanish colonial era churches and numerous shrines of the province.

5. Ride a boat across Taal Lake and hike to the crater of the very famous Taal Volcano.

6. Hike the picturesque Mt. Batulao.

7. Go island hopping

8. Enjoy the taste of Kapeng Barako

9. Go on a heritage tour and visit old houses in Taal.

10. Hit the beach and relax at any of the beautiful beaches in Batangas.

Patungan Beach - Cavite

Located in Barangay Sta. Mercedes (Patungan) in Maragondon , Cavite, Patungan Beach is one of the province's little-known beach destinations. It is situated inside Patungang Cove which is south of Mt. Palay Palay which is also known as Pico de Loro . Patungan Beach Patungan Beach Details The area near Patungan Beach is home to about 100 - 200 families, most of which are fishermen hence the alternate name of the barangay - Patungan Fishing Village . According to the locals that I interviewed, their place was once an isolated  barangay , reachable only by boat, horse, or foot. Thankfully, with the completion of the  Nasugbu - Ternate Highway  and  Kaybiang Tunnel , the barangay was finally connected to the province.
