Cup Noodles Museum History

Constructed in 1999, the Cup Noodles Museum was built in the city dubbed as the birthplace of instant noodles. It was in a little shed in the backyard of Momofuku Ando's house in Ikeda City that the first instant noodles were created on August 25, 1958. It took Momofuku Ando an entire year of research and trial and errors to create what is now one of the most popular food in the world.

I would love to talk more about the life of the Father of Instant Noodles and the history of the cup noodles but I think visiting the museum is a much better way of learning about this. The museum has detailed historical information complete with interactive visuals that would surely make you a "cup noodle historian" in just a day.

The recreation of Momofuku Ando's shed

The tools that helped bring the instant ramen to life

You would also see a recreation of the little shed complete with the tools and ingredients used by Momofuku Ando when he created the first instant noodles. After checking out the shed, walk a few meters to discover the Momofuku Ando and the Story of the Instant Noodles section of the museum. You'd see rare objects and photos from the period of Momofuku Ando's life. You would surely enjoy the interactive walls of this section in the museum.

Design your own cup...

...at My CUPNOODLES Factory

Now after learning about the history of cup noodles, the next perfect thing to do is design your own cup noodle packaging and create your personal cup noodle flavor at the My Cupnoodle Factory which is also inside the museum. In order for you to do this, you have to pay 300 yen per cup. I highly suggest that you try this one out.

Another part of the museum is the Chicken Ramen Factory on the second floor of the museum. Here, you can experience firsthand how to make your own noodles. A 500 yen participation fee is charged for the experience. Aside from the memories, participants will receive a Hiyoko-chan (Chicken Ramen mascot) souvenir bandana. Please take note that if you belong to a group of 20 people or more, a reservation is required.
